Fun Friday!!
Good morning!  We will have our first meet and greet at noon today on Google Meet.  Your parents will get an email from me around 11:30 with a link to join.   Make sure you are in Google Chrome and click the link!  You will be in.  Please remember to MUTE ( Turn off) your microphone.  We will practice with this today.  If you have one thing you would like to hold up and share with your classmates, please have it beside you and we will take turns showing our work/creations. 

Try to watch the slide show I sent you yesterday in your email!!  Go to Google waffle and click on the big M and you will see an email from me in dark black.  Click on the link and the the slides will come up!  There are some great pictures in the slides and it will help you understand how to use the tools in our meeting.

Today is a 'test' day!! Yup, I have sent all of you an email in your Gmail with a link to a PowerPoint to prepare for tomorrow.  Do you remember that you have to be in Google Chrome (rainbow wheel) before you log in and find your "waffle"? Once you are in the waffle, look for the big red  M which means mail.  There you will see 2 emails from me (black and bold)!  If you would like to practice, you can write me back and let me know how this worked for you and what you liked about the presentation!  Don't worry if things don't work right away... I will be helping you as will your parents so just take a big breath, try again, and then ask for help!

Hello Terrific Twos!  No this is not an April Fools joke to have 2 blogs today! 
This is a little video on how to get into google classroom.  The classroom is not yet set up, but this video will tell you a little about it and help you get ready for our upcoming Classroom meeting that will happen this Friday!  Your parents will be getting an email all about it and I will be sending you a link just before the meeting.  I know you all remember how to get into your google drive and the "waffle". Don't worry, I'll be sending you more information tomorrow and Friday!

Wintery Wednesday!

Good morning!  Happy April 1. It is April fools day today, did you play a trick on someone?
Here area couple of jokes to bring a laugh today:

How about heading outside for a little bit today, in your yard or a short walk?  What funny tracks can you make? Are there any objects you can find to make interesting or strange marks in the snow?  Can you spy any tracks in the snow... who or what do you think made them?  Draw or write about what you create and see.  Have fun!
Also, remember how we made the background for Arctic White?  In the story Snow Day, the art is created by layering the different paper.  Do you have different colored scrap paper at home? You could give it a try and create YOU on your snow day adventure!

Terrific Tuesday Twos!

Do you know what a proverb is? Do you think they are fact or fiction?  Read on…

A proverb is a saying or rhyme that gives some advice. Sometimes it uses simile, a comparison between two different things.  A common proverb heard in March is: “In like a lion, out like a lamb”. March has a lot of changing weather, as I bet you have noticed!  Some days are very warm and sunny and then there are days like today, cold and snowy.   This saying came from comparing the wild March weather to the roaring of lion and the more settled, warm weather of April to the gentle lamb. However, it is important to remember that this fun saying is not an accurate weather predictor!

Good Monday Morning Terrific Twos!  
I hope you had rest and fun over break, thinking of creative ways to spend time with family and stay connected to friends from a distance.  Did any of you create drawings or messages to place on your windows for community scavenger hunts? On my walks (keeping  a 2m distance from others), I enjoyed reading and looking at all the art and messages posted in windows!  I saw many children having creative play outside too.. climbing trees, and shoveling snow into piles to slide on in their yards.  I'd love to hear what things you invented, created or helped with over break.  You can complete a journal entry, draw and label or write and illustrate.  For now,  if you like, you can take a picture of your work and email it to me.  Later on this week, I will let you know where to share your work and how I will be sharing your learning assignments.   I am so looking forward to working with all of you on distance learning.  You are missed! I know there will be challenges, I'm calling it "homelearningtopia" , here is a the clip to get us into the spirit of trying and persevering even when things are difficult!  Ok, out of your chairs, get ready, dance and sing along!

Today:
Think of a creating a place to do your school work and organize your supplies for learning... will you need to share your space with others in the family?  How will you share computer time/pencils/supplies? 
Create a schedule... its important to have a routine.  Write down when you will get up, eat breakfast, check on your lessons for the morning and complete work. Don't forget to build in 'brain breaks', P.E. and music.  More ideas on how to complete these at home will be coming.  
Remember, when creating your schedule, use a strategy that works for you.. is it writing it out in steps, drawing images, or a combination of drawing and labeling. 
I'll be connecting with your family via email today to share more information outlining some of the next steps for learning adventures. I will also be phoning families over the next couple of days to check in and respond to any question from the email. More details will be shared throughout the coming week.

Hello students,
I wanted to let you know I am thinking about you and so glad you all are staying well.  Remember, by everyone helping out, we all make a positive difference.  Think about the little Hummingbird in the story, The Hummingbird and the forest Fire https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JVmDOJcBrR0.
The tulips are still blooming, and the fish are doing well.  You don't need to worry as they get special food that lasts a long time and I am have been feeding them every morning.   If you want some more ideas on things to do at home, here is a link to some ideas:

Spring break is almost here, did you know the first day of spring  is today?  Hey, can you see any signs of spring out there?  If you still have Santa's sunflower seeds, now would be a great time to plant them in a pot inside and watch them sprout and grow.

Our tulips are blooming!  Thank you to the Kennedy family for brining spring into our classroom!! The students are  enjoying watching the plants grow and develop.

What a fun day today!  Check out some photos of the work we did with our visiting "Mad Scientist."  Ask me to explain what we made.  It was very exciting!  Later, we used the information from the morning to re-design our boats, adding to them to help their buoyancy and stability.  We are so excited to share our work with you at conference later this month!

Tomorrow morning we have scientists coming to our class to share information on boats and buoyancy.

What a busy week we are having!  Ask us about the boats we are building.  We first learned about different boats and how boats are built, than we drew a design for our boat and now we are building it from recycled materials!  We are hard at work and our room resembles a major industrial work place!!  Check out the photos of some of our boats in progress.  We also developed a rubric for our boats and will do our first buoyancy and load test this week.  Next week we have visiting scientist  who will further explain boats and buoyancy and than we will have an opportunity to refine our boats.  We are excited to share our final work with you at parent conferences in March!!
We are also exploring Inuit artifacts to help us understand Inuit culture.  We have finished our Arctic animal research and have been learning about Inuit legends.  We will be writing our own legends soon.
And of course, we celebrated 100 days of school on Tuesday.  Students dressed up to look 100 years old!  What fun!
